What kind of drug is Persen?

Persen- this is combination drug of plant origin, possessing sedative and antispasmodic (eliminating spasm of smooth muscles) action. The components of the drug act at the level of the central nervous system (CNS), reducing its activity. This is manifested by a decrease in the reaction to various external stimuli, as well as facilitation of the process of falling asleep ( hypnotic action).

The composition of the drug Persen

This drug consists of several active ingredients of plant origin, as well as from excipients.

The active ingredients of Persen are:

  • dry extract of valerian rhizomes;
  • dry extract of lemon balm;
  • dry extract of peppermint.
All active ingredients have a direct therapeutic effect, that is, they have a moderate or pronounced sedative effect. Lemon balm and peppermint extracts also have an antispasmodic effect.

Excipients are necessary to give the medication a special shape, as well as to preserve medicinal components in an active state for a long time ( that is, they are also used as stabilizers).

The auxiliary components of Persen are:

  • Crospovidone- accelerates the dissolution of the tablet in the gastrointestinal tract and the release of active components.
  • Magnesium stearate- filler.
  • Corn starch- filler.
  • Colloidal silicon dioxide- forming substance.
  • Microcrystalline cellulose.
  • Lactose.
Also, auxiliary components include substances that make up a special drug shell ( talc, sucrose, glycerin and so on). They all have a protective effect ( prevent the destruction of the medication during storage), and also contribute to its more complete absorption in the gastrointestinal tract.

The mechanism of action of the drug Persen

The mechanism of action of this medication is due to the total effects of its active components.

The therapeutic effect of Persen is due to:

  • Valerian rhizome extract. Contains essential oils, tannins, organic acids, sugars and so on. These components enhance inhibitory processes at the level of the central nervous system, as a result of which nervous excitement decreases. The person relaxes, becomes calmer, worries less about questions that previously caused him strong anxiety. Due to the described effects, the process of falling asleep is also facilitated ( especially in the case of prolonged previous insomnia). Another effect of this remedy is the elimination of spasm ( excessive and painful contraction) smooth muscle, which is located in many internal organs (in particular in the gastrointestinal tract and genitourinary system).
  • Melissa extract. Contains essential oils, flavonoids and other biologically active components. Positive effects at the level of the central nervous system are due to a sedative, anxiolytic ( eliminating anxiety and increased anxiety) and antidepressant ( uplifting) action. This plant also has an antispasmodic effect. In addition, lemon balm preparations increase the activity of the immune ( protective) body systems, in particular by increasing antiviral immunity ( that is, protection human body from viral infection).
  • Peppermint extract. Has a calming effect, which is due to the composition of the plant essential oils and other substances. One of the main active ingredients in peppermint is menthol. On contact with the mucous membrane oral cavity it stimulates specific nerve receptors, thereby triggering a number of specific reflex reactions. Biologically active substances released in this case ( enkephalins, endorphins and others) stimulate the expansion blood vessels heart, brain and lungs, thereby improving blood circulation in these organs. Peppermint also has a mild antispasmodic, antiemetic and choleretic effect.

Forms of release and analogues of Persen

This medication is intended for oral administration only, therefore it is available in the form of tablets or capsules. It should be noted that, depending on the form of release, the quantity ( dose) active components of the drug, which is reflected in the effects rendered to them. The composition and amount of auxiliary components remain unchanged.

Persen tablets

The tablets have a round biconvex shape and are coated with a special dark brown coating. The tablets are packed in special blisters ( records), each of which contains 10 tablets. They are produced in packs of 2, 4, 6 or 8 blisters.

Each Persen tablet contains:
  • Valerian rhizome extract- 50 mg.
  • Melissa extract- 25 mg.
  • Peppermint extract- 25 mg.

Persen forte ( capsules)

The drug is available in the form of dark brown capsules, inside of which small granules or a compressed substance may be contained. The capsules are also packed in special blisters ( 10 pieces each) and are available in packs of 1, 2, 4, 6 or 8 blisters.

Each capsule of Persen forte contains:

  • Valerian rhizome extract- 125 mg.
  • Melissa extract- 25 mg.
  • Peppermint extract- 25 mg.
Due to the higher concentration of valerian rhizome extract this drug has a more pronounced sedative and relaxing effect than pills.

Night Persen ( capsules)

In terms of the release form, composition and amount of active components, this medication is no different from the drug Persen Forte.

Persen cardio

This drug has a calming effect and also improves performance of cardio-vascular system... At the same time, in composition, it is completely different from other forms of persen.

The active ingredients of Persen Cardio are:

  • Dry extract of passionflower herb. Acts on the central nervous system, stimulating the inhibitory processes in it and thus providing a sedative effect. Reduces nervous irritability and emotional stress, facilitates the onset of sleep.
  • Dry extract of leaves and flowers of hawthorn. Improves the work of the heart muscle and stimulates blood circulation in it, and also improves microcirculation in various organs and tissues. Reduces high blood pressure. Prevents the development of certain heart diseases ( in particular, it reduces the risk of arrhythmias - disturbances in the frequency and rhythm of heart contractions).
The drug is available in the form of capsules, each of which contains 200 mg of passionflower herb extract and 160 mg of hawthorn leaves and flowers extract. At correct application the drug has a sedative and cardiotonic ( improves heart function) action.

Analogs ( substitutes) drug persen

There are many herbal preparations that have a calming effect. They also help relieve nervous tension and emotional overload. These drugs can be used if Persen is ineffective, as well as if there are contraindications to its use.

Instructions for use of the drug Persen

This medication can be purchased at pharmacies without a doctor's prescription. At the same time, prolonged use of the drug without consulting a specialist can lead to the development of unwanted adverse reactions.

Indications for the use of Persen

As follows from the above, the main effect of Persen is to reduce the excitability of the central nervous system. Therefore, this drug can be prescribed for any diseases and pathological conditions accompanied by overexcitation of the central nervous system. It should be noted right away that various forms persen ( tablets or capsules) can be assigned when various diseases what to consider when buying a drug.

Persen tablets can be used:

  • With increased nervous excitability. The reason for the development of this pathology can be various stressful situations ( problems at work, at school, in the family). It is important to note that stress can be acute ( momentary psychological trauma) and chronic ( when a person is under stress for a long time). All of these points can lead to dysfunction of the central nervous system and to its overload. As a result, patients begin to complain of increased fatigue, decreased concentration, decreased memory, and so on.
  • With irritability. The cause of increased irritability ( nervousness) there can also be stressful situations. In addition, it has been scientifically proven that after a day without sleep, a person becomes much more irritable than usual. At the same time, he may be upset or nervous about any little things that previously did not cause him any anxiety. The reason for this is also a violation of the functions of the central nervous system and the emotional sphere.
  • With asthenoneurotic syndrome ( neurasthenia). This disease is most common in active young people between the ages of 20 and 40. The reason for the development of neurasthenia is most often the excessive workload associated with chronic lack of sleep, constant worries, quarrels and other stresses. All this leads to a pronounced overload of the central nervous system, as a result of which characteristic disorders develop. Patients with neurasthenia are constantly tired, drowsy, but at the same time irritable, quick-tempered, anxious. They themselves may notice a decrease in working capacity and memory.
  • With mild and moderate neuroses. Neurosis is a pathological condition of the central nervous system, in which the ability to work and mental activity are temporarily reduced. Also, with neurosis, there may be increased fatigue ( physical and emotional), irritability, emotional instability ( hysterical tendency) etc. The cause of this pathology is most often various conflict situations that almost every modern person is forced to face. If during a conflict some emotions or important thoughts remain unspoken, this leads to a gradual increase in psychological stress. With each successive conflict, this "suppressed" tension grows, as a result of which at one moment it can "splash out" outward, manifesting itself with one or more of the above symptoms. It should be noted that severe neuroses, combined with complete disability, are treated with special medications. Herbal preparations like persen can be used in the composition complex therapy or at the stage of recovery.
  • During the cancellation of potent sedatives. Drugs from this group can be used for various mental illnesses, as well as for the treatment of neuroses, severe neurasthenia, and so on. One of the important side effects most of these drugs are called withdrawal symptoms. Its essence lies in the fact that after a long intake of the medication, its abrupt cancellation ( that is, abrupt interruption of treatment) can lead to the return of previously existing symptoms, which may be more pronounced than before starting treatment. To avoid this, with the abolition of potent sedatives, they can be gradually replaced with herbal medicines.
  • For insomnia. This condition is characterized by difficulty falling asleep, frequent awakenings, and a feeling of fatigue immediately upon awakening. Insomnia can be caused by stressful situations, violation of the work and rest regimen, overwork during the day, active mental work just before bedtime, taking coffee or tea in the evening, as well as the use of psychostimulants ( medications that increase the activity of the central nervous system). It should be noted right away that persen can facilitate the onset of sleep with these pathologies, however, the use of sedatives should always be combined with the elimination of factors that led to the development of insomnia. Otherwise, the positive effect will persist only during the treatment period, and after the drug is discontinued, sleep disturbances will resume.
The main indication for the appointment of Persen in the form of capsules ( that is, persena forte and persena of the night) is insomnia. The fact is that these preparations contain 125 mg of valerian rhizome extract, which is 2.5 times more than in tablets. The main mechanism of action of valerian is a decrease in the activity of the central nervous system, as a result of which a person calms down, relaxes and falls asleep faster.

It is worth noting that capsules can also be used to treat neuroses, neurasthenia, and so on. At the same time, one must take into account the fact that they have a more pronounced ( compared to pills) sedative and hypnotic effect, as a result of which they are recommended for use in severe violations of the process of falling asleep.

Separately, it is worth noting the indications for the use of the drug persen cardio. On the one hand, it also has a sedative and relaxing effect, which is why it can be prescribed for stress, insomnia, overwork, neuroses, and so on. At the same time, due to the presence of cardiotonic action, the drug can be used in the presence of unpleasant sensations in the region of the heart ( in particular with a rapid and increased heartbeat) arising during strong experiences or stress. It should be noted right away that such manifestations may indicate other, more dangerous diseases hearts ( for example angina pectoris). Treatment of angina pectoris with persen alone is unacceptable, therefore, if the described symptoms are repeated quite often, it is recommended to consult a doctor.

Does Persen help with panic attacks?

A panic attack is an abruptly arising state of severe anxiety or fear, accompanied by a rapid heartbeat, feeling short of breath, dizziness, increased sweating, and so on. The duration of the panic attack can range from 1 to 10 minutes, however, even after the disappearance acute manifestations the feeling of anxiety can persist for an hour.

The causes of the disease are unknown. A genetic predisposition, dysfunction of the central nervous system, as well as the impact of various stress factors ( especially in adolescence). Treatment of this disease consists in the use of psychotherapy, as well as in the use drugs affecting the mental and emotional state of the patient ( antidepressants, tranquilizers are used).

Persen should not be used to eliminate an acute attack of a panic attack, since the therapeutic effects of this drug develop within several hours and gain strength only with prolonged use. At the same time, the use of a medication as prophylactic (to relieve nervous strain) can reduce the incidence of panic attacks and improve the neuropsychic state of the patient.

Is Persen effective for depression?

Depression is a persistent decrease in mood, in which a person loses the ability to enjoy something and sees everything that happens around him only in a negative, negative light. Depression is a mental disorder that requires complex psychotherapeutic and drug treatment (antidepressants are used). Persen is not prescribed for depression, since it inhibits the activity of the central nervous system, as a result of which patients become even more lethargic, drowsy and inactive.

Contraindications to the use of Persen

This drug is contraindicated in a number of pathological conditions, as it can intensify them. bad influence on the body or provoke the development of new negative reactions. Due to the fact that Persen tablets and capsules contain almost the same components, contraindications to their use are also the same.

The use of persen in the form of tablets or capsules is contraindicated:

  • If you are allergic to the components of the drug. The essence of allergies is that the immune system a person reacts too violently to the penetration of certain substances into the tissues of the body. If this happens, within a very short period of time, a whole complex of immune reactions is triggered, which can lead to damage to many organs and systems or even death. It is important to remember that allergies can be both to the active substances of persen ( i.e. valerian, lemon balm or peppermint) and auxiliary components.
  • With lactose intolerance. Lactose is a carbohydrate found in dairy products, and is also an auxiliary component of Persen tablets and capsules ( including persena cardio). The fact is that some people may be deficient in lactase, an enzyme that ensures the normal digestion of lactose. As a result, taken even in small amounts, lactose is not absorbed in the intestines, which leads to the development of certain symptoms ( to bloating, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, and so on).
  • With a deficiency of sucrase and isomaltase. These enzymes are involved in the digestion of the sucrose carbohydrate, which is part of the Persen tablets. The shell of the drug in the form of sucrose capsules does not contain, therefore, they can be taken with this pathology.
  • With gallstone disease. Cholelithiasis is characterized by the formation of stones in the biliary tract, which may be accompanied by them ( ways) inflammation and impaired outflow of bile. Peppermint extract, which is part of persen, has a choleretic effect, that is, it enhances the formation and secretion of bile. However, in the presence of stones in the biliary tract, this can cause their obstruction ( blockages). In this case, the resulting bile will accumulate above the obstruction site, stretching the biliary tract and leading to the development of colic ( manifested by the strongest stitching pains in the right hypochondrium).
  • At peptic ulcer stomach or duodenum. With peptic ulcer on the mucous membranes gastrointestinal tract defects are formed ( ulceration), in the area of which bleeding or perforation of the stomach wall may occur. The use of Persen in this case can contribute to the development of these complications.
It is also worth noting that this drug should be very carefully prescribed to people suffering from gastroesophageal reflux disease. The essence of this pathology is that due to impaired motility and tone of the gastrointestinal tract, part of the stomach contents can sometimes be thrown into the esophagus, which is manifested by belching, severe heartburn, or even pain in chest... Increased secretion of bile, stimulated by peppermint ( part of Persen), can aggravate the course of this disease.

Can Persen be taken at low blood pressure?

It is not recommended to take the drug with low blood pressure. The fact is that the active components of the drug have a sedative and relaxing effect, which is often accompanied by a decrease in blood pressure ( due to a decrease in the activity of the so-called sympathetic part of the nervous system, which maintains the tone of the blood vessels).

Blood pressure is considered to be normal, equal to 120/80 millimeters of mercury, although these figures can vary insignificantly even in healthy people... Nevertheless, if the pressure drops to 90/60 millimeters of mercury, it is strictly forbidden to take persen, since a further drop in blood pressure can lead to a violation of the blood supply to vital organs ( brain, kidney and so on).

Can Persen be taken during pregnancy?

None of the active ingredients by themselves are contraindicated during pregnancy. At the same time, it is not recommended for pregnant women to use the drug, as this can lead to the development of a number of adverse reactions.

Persen, like any other medication, can cause the development of allergic reactions. If an ordinary person has an allergy can proceed easily and painlessly ( for example, a rapidly resolving skin rash), in a pregnant woman, the development of allergic reactions can lead to extremely serious consequences, including damage and intrauterine death of the fetus.

It is also worth recalling that the use of Persen may be accompanied by a decrease in blood pressure. This can cause the development of fetal hypoxia ( a pathological condition in which the developing fetus begins to experience a lack of oxygen). The fact is that the provision of the embryo with oxygen and other vital components occurs through the vessels of the placenta - a special organ that appears in female body during pregnancy. With a pronounced decrease in blood pressure in the mother's body, the blood flow in these vessels can be reduced below a critical value, which will affect the condition of the fetus.

Is Persen compatible with breastfeeding ( during lactation)?

It is not recommended to take the drug during breastfeeding, as this can negatively affect the health of the baby. The fact is that some components of the drug ( in particular the active substances of valerian) are excreted together with the mother's breast milk, in the composition of which they can get into children's organism... Of course, the dose of valerian that penetrates into the child's body is negligible, as a result of which there will be no side reactions from the baby's nervous system. At the same time, it should be noted that the child's body ( especially during the first years of life) is extremely sensitive to various foreign products. This is due to the fact that his immune system is not yet fully formed and cannot react to foreign substances ( including those that enter the body with food) in the same way as it happens in the body of an adult. As a result, the use of various food additives or drugs ( including plant origin) can lead to the formation of allergies to them. As a result, in what follows ( sometimes throughout later life) the child will not be able to take these substances, as this will be accompanied by the immediate development of allergic reactions.

Persen for children

The study of the effect of the drug on the child's body has not been conducted. Persen in the form of tablets is not recommended for children under 3 years of age, as this can lead to the development of allergic reactions, as well as to a pronounced suppression of the activity of the nervous system. Prescribing the drug to children from 3 to 12 years old should be extremely careful ( short courses in reduced doses). Optimal in this case is the appointment of 1 tablet of medication 1 to 3 times a day.

Persen in the form of capsules, as well as persen cardio, is not recommended for children under 12 years of age, as this can significantly affect the activity of their central nervous system and slow down the processes of mental development. Also, the use of this medication in children is associated with an increased risk of developing all the adverse reactions described above.

For children over 12 years old, the drug is prescribed in the same doses as for adults.

Persen and alcohol compatibility

Drinking alcohol during the course of treatment is not recommended, as it can lead to the development of a number of undesirable effects. This is due to the mechanisms of action of the active components of the drug and ethyl alcohol (ethanol), which is a part of absolutely all alcoholic beverages.

At the level of the central nervous system, alcohol has various effects. At low concentrations of ethyl alcohol in the blood, excitation of the central nervous system can be noted, accompanied by an increase in motor activity, nervousness, irritability and other symptoms characteristic of the stage of mild intoxication. The use of Persen in this case may be ineffective, since the active components of the drug will not be able to eliminate the increased nervous excitability caused by ethanol. Moreover, if alcohol intake occurred against the background of previous treatment with Persen, all previously achieved positive effects ( reduction of irritability, normalization of sleep, and so on) may be lost.

At high concentration ethyl alcohol in the blood ( what is noted with severe intoxication) in the central nervous system, inhibition processes begin to prevail, that is, all functions of the brain are inhibited. Severe alcohol overdose in itself can lead to depression of the respiratory or vasomotor centers ( located in the brain stem), which in severe cases can lead to the death of the patient. Alcohol abuse while taking Persen ( which also inhibits the activity of the central nervous system) can contribute to the development of these side reactions.

Considering the above, it follows that during treatment it is best to completely abandon alcoholic beverages. In small doses, they can reduce the effectiveness of the therapeutic effect of the drug, and in large doses, they can lead to depression of the central nervous system, impairment of consciousness, or even death.

Is it possible to take Persen while driving ( when driving a car)?

During the use of the drug, you should refrain from administering vehicles, as well as from performing any other activity that requires increased attention and quick response. This is explained by the depressing effect of the active components of the drug, which they have at the level of the central nervous system. This is especially true when using Persen capsules containing an increased dose of valerian. At the same time, the person himself may not notice any deviations in his behavior ( especially at the beginning of treatment), however, the speed of reactions and response actions during the use of the medication will certainly decrease, which can create a danger when driving.

People taking large doses of the drug should be especially careful. It is highly discouraged to drive for patients who have taken the drug within the last 3 to 4 hours. This applies both to preparations containing valerian and persen cardio.

After the end of the course of treatment, the normal activity of the central nervous system and the speed of reactions are restored within a few days ( depending on the duration of the previous treatment).

Application and dosage ( how to drink persen?)

The drug should be taken exclusively by mouth with a small amount ( 100 ml) warm water. You can take the medication at any time of the day, regardless of food intake. At the same time, it is worth remembering that the active components of the drug have a relaxing and hypnotic effect, which must be taken into account when drawing up a treatment regimen.

Side effects of persen

Side effects can rarely develop in healthy people, which may be due to drug intolerance, as well as hypersensitivity to some of its components ( allergic reactions are most common).

Allergy to Persen components can manifest itself:

  • Redness of the skin ( in the limbs, abdomen, back). This effect is due to the expansion of superficial blood vessels resulting from the release of a large amount of biologically active substances into the bloodstream.
  • Skin rash. It also develops as a result of the expansion of blood vessels.
  • Swelling. The reason for their development is the expansion of blood vessels, an increase in the permeability of the vascular wall and the release of the liquid part of the blood into the intercellular space.
Severe allergic reactions ( like anaphylactic shock requiring emergency medical attention) develop extremely rarely. Also, very rarely, bronchospasm can occur ( narrowing of the bronchi, accompanied by difficulty breathing).

Others side effect, observed with prolonged use of the drug, may be constipation. The development of this phenomenon is associated with a change in the intestinal microflora, which is due to lactose, which is part of the drug. Also, with prolonged use of Persen cardio, nausea, vomiting or diarrhea may occur ( diarrhea), which is due to the action of the active components of hawthorn.

If you experience any discomfort or adverse reactions during treatment, you should immediately stop taking the drug and consult your doctor.

Is persen addictive?

The preparation contains herbal ingredients that do not cause addiction or dependence. After stopping treatment ( even with a sharp withdrawal of the drug after prolonged use) the phenomenon of cancellation is not observed.

Persen overdose

The drug contains extremely small concentrations of plant components, as a result of which it is very difficult to achieve an overdose. However, it has been found that taking 25 capsules or 60 persen tablets at the same time can cause certain systemic manifestations. Taking 20 grams of valerian extract ( which equals 103 persen tablets) can cause the development of a number of severe adverse reactions from various organs and systems.

An overdose of Persen can manifest itself:

  • severe drowsiness;
  • loss of consciousness ( rarely);
  • dizziness;
  • nausea;
  • vomiting;
  • paroxysmal pain in the abdomen;
  • shaking hands;
  • dilated pupils.
These symptoms can go away on their own within a day. Overdose treatment consists in multiple gastric lavage and intake of enterosorbents ( e.g. activated carbon), which bind the components of the drug in the intestine, preventing their further absorption. In extremely severe cases, hospitalization of the patient is indicated.
