Prague TV Tower(Žižkovská věž) is located on address Mahlerovy sady 1, 130 00 Praha 3, Height 216 meters. Costs TV tower Prague in the Žižkov district. How to get to Prague TV tower... Photo report of the visit Prague TV tower.

TV tower in Prague is the tallest building in the Czech Republic.Prague TV Tower is an honorary member of the World Federation of High Towers.

Many have argued and continue to argue until now whether it was necessary to build this TV tower almost in the historic center of Prague? An interesting fact, it seemed to me that the Prague TV tower is not striking from other areas Prague, i.e. it is not visible unless you specifically look for it. By TV tower crawling very cute babies, which invented David Cherny. They look great. Now these babies can be seen on the island of Kampa. I still do not understand, did the spare kids do it or updated the old ones?

Interesting facts about these babies.

In 2000 Prague TV tower finally said goodbye to her so-called communist past ( TV tower built in communist Czechoslovakia), because sculptures "Babies" by the modern Czech sculptor David Cherny were installed on it. Nevertheless, these little ones, crawling in different directions along TV tower little kids, can be observed over the next 11 years, they look as if they have always been there.

The most interesting thing is that when these kids were hung on Prague TV tower, then in the winter of 2001 they were removed from there, as they were afraid that when the snow began to fall, they would fall from there along with the snow. And God forbid, no one be on the head. I can't imagine how they were removed / hung, they are huge and weigh under a ton, I guess. But within a few months the people of Prague had already become attached to the babies, they started a campaign to bring them back, and soon the babies came back.

By the way, David Cherny is such an interesting artist that he posted the following information on his website: Prague TV tower- 10-20 years old. That is, until they fall off themselves. Everyone hopes that this will not happen, but who knows. " With these words, he spoke about these sculptures. All crawling babies without faces, this is not visible from the ground, but this is so, you can make sure on Campe. At the time when Cerny was inventing his children, there was an anti-abortion program in the Czech Republic, so David supported this program.

Before Prague TV tower we walked from the station náměstí Míru, there are stations that are closer, but walking around Prague is a delight. The weather was good, the landmark can be seen from far away.

Went inside TV towers, there is an elevator, we bought tickets for a small price, you can go up to the first level, there is a restaurant, were not hungry, because came to TV tower in the morning, and the prices seemed quite high.

Climbed to the next level Prague TV tower, there is an observation deck (about 90 meters), the view is very beautiful, the only thing that spoiled it was the dim glass.

We admired the views, took pictures, went downstairs and went for a walk further. I like it, TV tower in Prague I am very sympathetic, there are never many people. When we were there, we were alone there. Recommend.

Well, in 2000, the tower finally said goodbye to its so-called communist past, because it was established on it that Tanechka?

Because it was established that, Tanechka?

On it were installed sculptures "Babies" by the modern Czech sculptor David Cherny. Surely, recently you have often heard his name, as he created a panel for the presidency of the Czech Republic in the European Union.

This is how another scandalous sculpture "Entropa" was born. But this, of course, is a separate conversation. Nevertheless, these kids, crawling up and down the tower can be seen over the next 20 years, so organically they merged with the structure.

The most interesting thing is that when these kids were hanged on the tower, in the winter of 2001 they were taken out of there, because they were afraid that snow would start to fall and they would fall from there along with the snow and kill someone. But within a few months the citizens of Prague had already become so attached to the babies that they began an active campaign for their return, and soon the babies returned back.

By the way, David Cerny is such a funny artist that he posted the following information on his website: “At the moment, the estimated period of babies' stay on the tower is 10-20 years. That is, until they fall off themselves. Everyone hopes that this will not happen, but who knows. " These are the words that accompany his work.

Olga, did you pay attention to the fact that all the babies crawling on the tower have no faces?

I paid attention, but I don't know what it is connected with.

In the Czech Republic, there was a campaign against abortion, and now, David Cerny found such a solution to express his protest against abortion. He created babies without faces.

In my opinion, very thoughtful. But David Cerny is known for being not such a simple artist, and all his works have deep connotations. By the way, I must say that there is rarely a crush on the tower, and now there is an elderly couple with us on the observation deck. We decided to ask them why they climbed this tower?

“This is our first time here. In general, we are not from Prague, but from the city of Benešov near Prague. We have wanted to come here for a long time, finally we succeeded, and we are very happy about it. And we climbed the tower to see the view of Prague from here, and we are not disappointed - it is very beautiful! "

Well, probably, we told you enough about the tower, and, in conclusion, perhaps summing up, let's say that the tower is an honorary member of the World Federation of High Towers. By the way, here on the walls you can see photographs of her “colleagues in the shop”.

For example, a tower in Chicago, whose height is 444 meters, in Auckland, in New Zealand - there the tower rises 328 meters above the ground, a tower in Melbourne, in Australia, whose height is 270 meters, and, by the way, in the capital of Uzbekistan - in Tashkent, its height is 375 meters.

- We have already said that Prague residents have different attitudes towards the tower, many city residents still do not like it and say that it offers the best view of Prague, since the tower itself is not visible from it. Incidentally, this saying is attributed to Guy de Maupassant, who said the same about the Eiffel Tower.

Perhaps it may be so, but, to be honest, I am deeply sympathetic to this tower, perhaps because I have no reminiscences of the communist past.

And I like it because babies crawl on it, and from socialist realism it turned into a surreal building.

Quite right, Tanechka. Well, on this optimistic note, we will probably say goodbye to you. By the way, we here, Tanya, did not perform one of our favorite rituals with you. Guess which one?

Jump from the tower?

No, have some coffee! Because there is also a good restaurant here. But we will leave this to the discretion of our radio listeners, who, when visiting Prague, may want to visit it and have a cup of coffee here, enjoying the beautiful views of Prague.

And on this we say goodbye to you! Olya Vasinkevich and Tanya Krzhelinova were with you. Let's hear it!

As promised earlier, today we will see the Zizkov TV Tower. A little help about this structure:
- located in the Prague-3 district, also called Vinohrady.
- construction began in 1985, but ended only in 1992, project: Aulicki, Kozak and Bem.
- The tower is 216 meters high and is the tallest structure in the Czech Republic.
- for visitors there is an observation deck at a height of 93 meters and a restaurant at a height of 66 meters, the passenger elevator moves at a speed of 4 m / s.
- in the tower, in addition to television and radio broadcasting equipment, there is a meteorological station.
- the tower is decorated with sculptures by David Cherny. He is a very popular artist and sculptor, his works are often found in Prague, some of them you have already seen in previous posts about Prague, in particular, the inverted horse of St. Wenceslas and the Man Peeing. Other works by David Cherny can be viewed on his website.

View of the tower from the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart of the Lord. Also very unusual in its architecture, the cathedral, built in 1932 by Josip Jozhe.

View from Ondrickova street.

The tower is interesting not only by its views, but also by itself. Here are the same sculptures by David Black, depicting babies without a face. A couple of their brothers can be found near the Kampa Museum in Mala Strana.

The weight of each is about 100 kg (robust, you will not say anything). There was a story with them: they were placed on the tower for a short time in 2000, in line with the announcements of Prague as a European City of Culture. Then they were removed, fearing that due to the snow sticking in winter, they would collapse. However, the townspeople liked them very much and they collected signatures for their return. In 2001, the kids returned to their place.

Can anyone tell me what they basically symbolize, why do they have something like a barcode instead of a face? I dug in the net, but I still could not find an answer.

There are a lot of them here.

Naked kids.

Here's the biggest one. Is that what he has instead of a face?

The butts are dry and without any diapers.

And here is the entrance to the tower: no problems like we have in Ostankino - I came, I saw, I visited!

At the top there is a photo chronicle of the construction, and you can also find images of various TV towers and skyscrapers from around the world. Photos of Ostankinskaya, like other Moscow towers, have not been seen.
And on the observation deck there are paid telescopes and special podiums from which you can watch and shoot over the heads of other visitors.

Alas, like all television towers and most public viewing platforms around the world, everything is glazed here, and these glasses are far from ideal. So I apologize in advance for the poor quality, glare and other delights.

Neighborhood.

Olshanka Avenue with the hotel of the same name in the foreground and the building of the telecommunications company O2.

This building is closer. From a distance it can be mistaken for an air traffic control tower. Nearby is the Zizkovsky railway station, as I understand it, a commodity station (Nákladové nádraží Žižkov).

District Libeň.

A view towards the historical center of Prague and the Main Station, from which you can go to any city in Europe, including Moscow (we came to it and left it back).

Hradcany.

Church of St. Prokop.

Frantisek Skrop Square (such a Czech composer).

Church of St. Ludmila.

National Museum.

Some kind of skyscraper.

Masaryk station.

The historic center again.

Petřín Hill.

In the next episode, we will take a break from city views and look at the animals: there is a very enchanting zoo in Prague, which is considered one of the best in the world. We will go there.

In the previous series.

Zizkov TV Tower is the tallest building in Prague. The tower offers visitors a 360 ° view, an observation deck with themed cabins, an interactive exhibition, a restaurant, cafe, bar and a luxury apartment.

There is always controversy around the Žižkovský vysílač TV tower in Prague. Should we consider it a landmark, a triumph of modern technology, or, on the contrary, a shame of Czech architecture?

The ižkov TV Tower in Prague's Vinohrady district was built between 1985-92 by architects Aulický, Bem and Kozak. The basis of the high-rise (216 m) structure is made up of three concrete pillars. They are interconnected by platforms-"cubes". On the first level (height 66 m), in the lower "cube", there is the Oblaca restaurant. On the second level (height 93 m) there are three glazed observation cabins. These are the highest observation decks in the Czech Republic. They are equipped with photo podiums and paid observation telescopes. People get to the observation cabins on a high-speed elevator (speed - 4 m / s).

The tower looks like a silvery rocket frozen on the launch pad. To soften the urban look of the TV tower, creative sculptor David Cerny decorated the structure with ten crawling babies in 2000. The weight of each cast-iron "baby" is 100 kg. The symbolic black figurines have no faces.

The TV tower looks beautiful at night when the lights are on. Its rays correspond to the three colors of the Czech flag: white, red, blue.

It's very simple - look not only at the booking. I prefer the search engine RoomGuru. He is looking for discounts on Booking and 70 other booking sites at the same time.

History of the Zizkov TV Tower

The Prague Television Tower was built in 1985-1992 according to the project of the architect Vaclav Aulicki. The architecture of the tower is represented by three high concrete pillars on which cubes-observation platforms seem to hang: in the lower three there is a restaurant, in the next - three observation platforms with a 360-degree view. On the last level there is a relay equipment - an operating TV tower. Opponents of the tower are dissatisfied, firstly, with its appearance, which does not suit the surrounding area at all, and secondly, with the fact that the old Jewish cemetery was partially destroyed for its construction.

The tower got its name from the Zizkov district in which it is located. It has been recognized many times as an architectural monument, cultural heritage and one of the main attractions of Prague, as well as the ugliest building in the city, or even one of the ugliest buildings in the world, which spoils the panorama of the Czech capital with its appearance. Until now, among tourists and the inhabitants of Prague themselves there is no consensus on this matter - some people like the tower, but some do not.

From 2000 to this day, the tower has been adorned with the sculptural composition "Babies" by the famous Polish postmodern sculptor David Cerny (or Cerny, Czech. David Cerný), who became famous for his provocative, even scandalous, but at the same time ironic works. Babies have no faces - this is how the artist expressed his protest against abortion. The babies not only decorate the barrel of the tower, but also balance the structure - each of them weighs more than half a ton, and the sculptor personally chose where to place each sculpture.

Faceless babies are removed from the tower for maintenance from time to time, so sometimes they may not be found. Once they wanted to remove them completely, but the people of Prague fell in love with them so much, largely due to the fact that thanks to them the building, reminiscent of socialist times, turned into a modern one, which eventually left the little ones, only by improving the fastenings.
