Precautionary measures

The drug should be discontinued at the first signs of peripheral neuropathy (the occurrence of paresthesias), because the development of this complication can be life-threatening.
It is necessary to discontinue treatment with furadonin if unexplained symptoms of impaired lung function, liver function, hematological and neurological disorders occur.
If signs of lung damage appear, furadonin should be discontinued immediately. Careful monitoring of lung function is required in patients receiving long-term treatment with furadonin, especially in the elderly.
Careful monitoring of patients receiving long-term furadonin therapy is required in order to identify signs of hepatitis development.
After taking furadonin, urine may turn yellow or brown. In patients receiving furadonin, false-positive reactions may occur when determining glucose in urine.
Furadonin should be discontinued if signs of hemolysis appear in patients with suspected glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency.
Reactions from the gastrointestinal tract can be minimized when the drug is taken with food, milk, or when the dose is reduced.
With prolonged therapy, it is possible to develop superinfection caused by fungi or insensitive microorganisms.
Nitrofurantoin should be used with caution in case of impaired renal function (creatinine clearance 60–90 ml / min), suspicion of a deficiency of glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase or other erythrocyte enzymes, in debilitated patients, those with allergies, liver and lung pathology, neurological disorders.

Pregnancy and lactation

The use of furadonin during pregnancy is contraindicated. If it is necessary to use it during lactation, the child should be weaned from the breast for the entire period of treatment.

Pharmacological properties

Furadonin is an antimicrobial agent broad action, a nitrofuran derivative, but not included in the group of antibiotics. Due to the active substance, the drug has a bactericidal and bacteriostatic effect in urinary tract infections. The medicine destroys the membranes of bacteria, inhibits protein synthesis, destroys Escherichia coli, Klebsiella, Enterobacteriaceae, Proteus, Staphylococcus aureus. The agent is well absorbed by the digestive tract, its bioavailability increases with food intake.

According to these instructions, the rate of absorption of the antibacterial agent depends on the size of the crystals (the powder dissolves faster, is absorbed, and concentrates in the urine as quickly as possible). The substance binds to plasma proteins by 60%, is metabolized by the liver and muscle tissues, the half-life is 20-25 minutes. Nitrofurantoin crosses the placental and blood-brain barriers and is excreted by the kidneys.

Indications for use

According to the instructions, the medicine Furadonin has the following indications for use:

  • infectious and inflammatory diseases of the urinary organs;
  • pyelonephritis, acute cystitis, pyelitis, urethritis, asymptomatic bacteriuria, paranephritis;
  • uncomplicated bladder infections;
  • for the prevention of infections during urological operations and preparation for them (cystoscopy, catheterization urinary tract).

How to take Furadonin

The medicine has a bitter taste, therefore it is not recommended to chew the tablets. The suspension bottle must be shaken well before use, then measure the nitrofurantoin dose with a glass or spoon. The suspension is allowed to be combined with milk, water, juice - this reduces discomfort in the stomach. According to the instructions, Furadonin tablets for pyelonephritis should be taken with plenty of water... The effect of nitrofurantoin is enhanced in an acidic environment, so it is recommended to consume more protein foods.

Pills

The recommended dose for adults is 50-100 mg, 4 times / day. The maximum dosage is 600 mg / day, single dose is 300 mg. The course of treatment lasts seven days, it is possible to continue therapy for another three days, provided that the urine reaction was monitored for sterility. After long-term treatment, the dose of the drug is gradually reduced. Supportive therapy includes 50-100 mg tablets once a day, for prevention it is recommended to take 50 mg four times a day for operations for urological diseases and the same dose three days after.

Suspension

According to the instructions, children are recommended to take the medicine in the form of a suspension. Dosage synthetic the drug is calculated based on the weight of the child - 5-8 mg of the drug is taken per kg of body weight. The received daily amount of the drug is divided into four doses. The duration of suspension therapy is a week. After that, the doctor analyzes the urine for sterility, makes a culture for the presence of microorganisms and, if necessary, prescribes an appointment for another three days.

Powder

The form of the medicine in the form of a powder is rarely used, it dissolves in a liquid and is taken with cystitis. Furadonin is prescribed in the amount of 50-100 mg four times / day for adults, the course of treatment is 7-10 days. The maintenance dose for urological infections is considered to be 50-100 mg 1 time per day (it is better to take it at night). This dosage is used to prevent exacerbations or when chronic course illness. Supportive therapy can last all year round, with a minimum duration of three months.

The drug Furadonin

Furadonin- antimicrobial synthetic remedy, which has a wide spectrum of action.

Furadonin is not an antibiotic, it belongs to the group of drugs of the nitrofuran series. On many bacteria - Klebsiella, Staphylococcus, Enterococcus, Escherichia coli, Proteus, Enterobacter, etc. - the drug has a bacteriostatic (stops the reproduction of microbes) and bactericidal ("kills" microbes) action.

Furadonin is used to treat urinary tract infections.

The drug is well absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract, crosses the placenta and into breast milk, cerebrospinal fluid, excreted by the kidneys. May darken urine. The concentration in the blood at usual therapeutic doses is negligible.

The active ingredient of the medicinal product is nitrofurantoin.

Forms of issue

  • Tablets 0.05 g, 20 pieces per package.

  • Suspension Furadonin (for dosing, a measuring cup or spoon is included in the package).

Instructions for the use of Furadonin

Indications for use

Furadonin is used for the treatment and prevention of infectious and inflammatory diseases of the urinary tract (caused by pathogens sensitive to the drug):
  • cystitis;
  • pyelitis;
  • pyelocystitis;
  • pyelonephritis;
WITH preventive purpose Furadonin is prescribed for cystoscopy (examination of the bladder using an optical cystoscope device), catheterization of the bladder (insertion of a special rubber tube into the bladder - a catheter), during urological operations.

Contraindications

  • Individual intolerance to nitrofurantoin;
  • renal failure with severe impairment of renal excretory function;
  • chronic active hepatitis or cirrhosis of the liver;

  • early childhood: up to 1 month;
  • acute porphyria (hereditary disease with damage to the nervous system);
  • purulent inflammation of the perineal tissue.

Furadonin is not prescribed for the treatment of glomerulonephritis. With caution (since the appointment increases the risk of complications - peripheral neuropathies), Furadonin is used for such diseases and conditions:

  • violations electrolyte balance;
  • lack of B vitamins;
  • genetic (congenital) deficiency of the enzyme glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase;
  • anemia (anemia).
Furadonin should not be prescribed concurrently with Nevigramon - this reduces the effectiveness of Furadonin. Also not recommended joint application Furadonin with drugs that cause impaired renal function.

Side effects

  • Allergic reactions: urticaria, Quincke's edema (diffuse or limited swelling of the subcutaneous fat), itchy skin; in very rare cases - anaphylactic shock (life-threatening severe allergic reaction organism).
  • From the respiratory system: cough, shortness of breath, chest pain; interstitial pneumonitis (inflammation of the lung tissue with damage to the alveolar wall) or fibrosis (replacement of lung tissue connective tissue); decreased lung capacity; asthmatic attack in patients with bronchial asthma.
  • From the digestive system: decreased appetite, discomfort in the epigastric region, nausea, vomiting; in rare cases - hepatitis (inflammation of the liver); cholestatic jaundice (violation of the outflow of bile); abdominal pain, diarrhea.
  • From the nervous system: headaches, drowsiness, dizziness, nystagmus (involuntary oscillatory rhythmic movements eyeballs), peripheral neuropathy (degenerative damage to peripheral nerves).
  • From the side of the hematopoietic organs: a decrease in the number of white blood cells (white blood cells), a decrease in the number of platelets (platelets involved in blood clotting), a decrease or complete absence of granulocytes (a type of white blood cells involved in defensive reactions organism), hemolytic anemia (anemia due to the destruction of red blood cells - red blood cells), megaloblastic anemia (malignant anemia with vitamin B 12 deficiency) - these adverse reactions are reversible.
  • From the side of the skin: exfoliative dermatitis (inflammation of the skin with detachment of the surface layer), erythema multiforme (a disease of the skin and mucous membranes of an infectious-allergic nature).
  • Other options for side effects: superinfection of the urinary tract (an inflammatory process caused by another pathogen - more often Pseudomonas aeruginosa); arthralgia (joint pain); drug fever; chills, bone aches; weight loss ; tinnitus; itching and vaginal discharge.

Furadonin treatment

How to take Furadonin?

Furadonin has a bitter taste. The tablets should not be chewed; they need to be washed down with plenty of water (at least 1 glass).

The suspension bottle must be shaken well before use, then the required dose of the medicine must be measured. The suspension can be mixed with milk, water or fruit juice.

Taking Furadonin with food or milk can reduce stomach and intestinal discomfort.

The action of Furadonin is enhanced in an acidic environment, therefore, the use of protein products is recommended in the diet.

During treatment with Furadonin, nalidixic acid and antacids (drugs that reduce the acidity of gastric juice), which include magnesium trisilicate, should not be taken. at the same time, the absorption of Furadonin and its therapeutic effect are reduced.

It is undesirable to use simultaneously Sulfinpyrazone and Probenecid - they help to reduce the excretion of Furadonin in the urine. And this will cause an increase in the concentration of Furadonin in the blood, an increase in its toxicity and a decrease in the therapeutic effect in the urinary tract.

Furadonin dosage
The dose of Furadonin is determined by the doctor. Usually, adults are prescribed 50-100 mg 4 times a day. The course of treatment lasts 5-8 days, if necessary, the doctor can extend the course of treatment up to 10 days.

In the absence of a therapeutic effect, a longer intake of the drug is inappropriate.

Prophylactic, anti-relapse treatment can last 3-12 months. Daily dose is determined at the rate of 1-2 mg per 1 kg of patient weight. The prophylactic dose can be taken once a day, before bedtime.

Furadonin for children

In pediatrics, for the treatment of urinary tract infections, Furadonin can be prescribed to children over 1 month of age.

The dose of the drug is determined at the rate of 5-7 mg per 1 kg of body weight per day. The daily dose is divided into 4 doses.

Children over 12 years of age are prescribed 100 mg 2 times a day. The course of treatment is 5-7 days.

Furadonin during pregnancy

Given the fact that Furadonin crosses the placenta and can have a toxic effect on the fetus, it is contraindicated to take it during pregnancy.

Experimental studies in animals have identified a risk to the fetus. The clinical experience of using Furadonin during pregnancy has not been studied.

Gynecologists sometimes use Furadonin to treat urinary tract infections in women after 12 weeks of pregnancy. In this case, it is necessary to compare possible risk for the fetus and healing effect from the use of Furadonin.

Furadonin for cystitis

Furadonin is used to treat acute and chronic cystitis (inflammation of the bladder) in both adults and children (over 1 month old).

It is advisable to conduct a bacteriological examination of urine (urine culture) before starting treatment to identify the pathogen that caused cystitis and determine the sensitivity of the isolated microorganism to antibacterial agents (including Furadonin). In chronic cystitis, such an examination must be carried out with each exacerbation, because and pathogen inflammatory process and its sensitivity to antibacterial agents may vary.

The dosage of Furadonin for cystitis is usual: 50-100 mg 4 times a day. Duration of treatment is 7-10 days. Children are prescribed a dose of 5-8 mg per 1 kg of body weight.

The maintenance dose (or prophylactic to prevent exacerbations) in chronic cystitis is 50-100 mg of Furadonin 1 time per day (can be taken at night). The duration of maintenance therapy is determined by the doctor. The treatment can be carried out for 3-12 months.
