Is it possible to assemble phytolamps yourself?

On the horticultural forums can be stumbled upon the themes describing the creation of phytolamps with their own hands using LED tapes or individual LEDs recorded on a metal profile. But to gather such a backlight for seedlings, it is necessary to understand well in electrical engineering. The main complexity is to assemble the source of the current from the resistor and the stabilizer (instead you can buy a special driver, but then the cost of the design will be significantly higher). It is easier to collect phytolampa with your own hands on a simplified scheme from ready-made LED Laps, which can be bought at any lighting shop.

Materials and tools for assembly:

  • lED lamps of red and blue on 3 LEDs;
  • fragment of the chipboard of a rectangular shape;
  • cartridges for LED lamps (the amount must correspond to the number of lamps);
  • drill;
  • screwdriver;
  • soldering iron;
  • fasteners;
  • cord with a fork.

Stages assembly construction

The assembly of the system of artificial illumination of plants by LEDs according to this scheme does not provide anything complicated. We consistently perform the following actions:


  1. On a LISP Sheet Pencil Place the Installation Places of Future Lamps and with Drills Drill a hole in the center of each of them for further posting.

  2. Using a screwdriver, fix cartridges for lamps in marked places.

  3. We screw the lamps into the cartridges, after removing the diffusers from them and we convene all the electrical wiring elements in series using soldering.

  4. Complete the assembly of the electrical circuit with a cord with a fork. Now you can spend a test start of the design. Well, if for these purposes there is a laboratory power supply with the ability to submit voltage less than 220V.

  5. After making sure the lighting system works, you can connect it to the main network and mount directly above the seedler.

Backlight for seedlings based on LED matrices

The above describes the process of assembling the seedlings of seedlings from individual LEDs. Such systems are effective for individual boxes with seedlings a la "Babushkin Balcony". For lighting seedlings in large volumes (mini-greenhouse), it is better to use homemade backlight systems based on LED matrices. The cost of building such a device will be higher than in the first case, but still incommensurate with expenses for the purchase of ready-made phytolamps for mini-greenhouses. The basis of such a system - LED matrices for plants with a double spectrum.

You will need the following components:

  • lED matrices - 4 pcs;
  • old processor radiator;
  • connectors for LED matrices;
  • drill;
  • termoklay;
  • fasteners (screws);
  • computer fan for 12V;
  • screwdriver.

Step-by-step assembly instructions:

  1. Using drills, we plan 8 holes on the housing 8 holes for fixing LED matrices.

  2. We install on the drill drill under the thread with the M2 diameter and we drill the outlined places. The depth of the holes must correspond to the size of the screws.
  3. With screws and thermoclauses, we perform the fastening of matrices to the radiator housing in the planned locations. First we apply a small amount of glue on the base of the matrix and gently apply it to the place of the mount, then screw the screws.

  4. Now we can consistently connect all the LED mitrix with connectors and set the connector to which the current source will be mounted (LED driver).

  5. We connect the driver to the connector and check our design to work.

  6. The final stage of the assembly of phytolamba on LED matrices is connected to a 12V fan electrical network. Without it, our radiator will quickly overheat.

Checking the effectiveness of the draft system

Whatever the backlight system of seedlings you have not chosen - factory or homemade, the principles of checking its effectiveness are the same. The main evaluation criterion is the appearance of the seedlings:

  1. If in some parts of the greenhouse, the stems of stem, unequal length, which means plants lack light. The solution to the problem can be the additional lighting of the site (try moving the profile with fixed LEDs closer to seedlings).
  2. Straight, as on the selection of stalks with bright green leaves, indicate that plants are completely enough light. Reduce or increase the lighting intensity in this case should not be.
  3. If the sheets become sluggish, cough, most likely the backlight system will strongly "fries." Try to reduce the number of LED panels. To determine if there is no overheating, hurt your hand over the tops of seedlings. If you feel that it takes out, then you have moved heated.
  4. Remember that for each culture there is its own light mode. Determine when you need to turn off the backlight, the plants themselves will help. Take a look at their sheets: if they start closing (stretch vertically) - it means it is time to stew light. To freely check boxes with the seedle, not only in the dark, but also on cloudy days.
