How to treat pancreatitis at home

Pancreatitis is a disease that rarely manifests itself once. If the acute form occurs twice, then they speak of a recurrence of chronic pancreatitis. The protracted course of the disease involves not only periodic stationary periods, but also the treatment of pancreatitis at home in full accordance with medical recommendations.

Features and lifestyle

After diagnosing a chronic disease, the main thing that every patient should learn is that the future life is not a dull existence and constant medication, but simply a new way of life. It should reflect the following points that determine treatment at home:

  • diet;
  • taking medication;
  • the use of traditional medicine;
  • load distribution;
  • elements of relaxation and calm environment;
  • periodic rehabilitation measures;
  • knowledge of the basics of help in the event of an acute attack.

Each of these points requires a detailed explanation.

Homemade food for pancreatitis

The main element that can cure and return the disease is food at home, outside the hospital. This is not so much a diet, but the inculcation of new gastronomic habits and needs. Without a properly organized eating behavior, there is no need to wait for an improvement in the condition: it will not happen, or the violations will end with another attack. The main goal of changes in the mode of eating is to exclude excesses of exacerbation from everyday life.

Everyone who has had at least one attack of pancreatitis, or who has immediately received a diagnosis of a chronic disease, knows the new rules for energy supply of the body at home:

  • fractional diet - the daily amount of food is distributed into 6 - 8 meals, approximately equal in calories and volumes;
  • freshly prepared dishes are a difficult condition, but one must strive for it and, if possible, observe it;
  • methods of culinary processing of products - preference is given to cooking, stewing, steam cooking, followed by rubbing or preliminary chopping;
  • refusal of fried foods, smoked meats, pickles, hot spices, fatty dishes and sauces for them;
  • exclusion of certain foods - mushrooms, raw legumes, beans, white cabbage, sour fruits and berries with small seeds and without heat treatment, saturated broths, whole milk, egg yolk, lard, fresh bread and pastries, chocolate, alcohol;
  • preference for home cooking.

Cooking websites offer a large number of interesting diet recipes that do not require rare ingredients to create, on the contrary, everything is very affordable. It’s hard to imagine a situation where you can’t cook full-fledged meals from simple products. Over time, the new menu becomes familiar and preferred. An indicator of proper nutrition at home is good health and the absence of digestive problems.

Medicines for pancreatitis

Medicines prescribed by a doctor are the only medicines that can be taken for pancreatitis. Any amateur activity with prescriptions (choice of drugs, changing the dosage or duration of the course) can turn into a disaster when nothing foreshadows it.

Important! Treatment with tablets is prescribed individually by a doctor! Only a specialist can take into account all the nuances (weight, age, phase of the disease, concomitant diseases, hormonal levels, etc.)

With pancreatitis for treatment at home, medications of several groups are prescribed:

  • antispasmodics - prescribed in courses after exacerbation and symptomatically, to ensure sufficient lumen of the pancreatic ducts, intestinal, gallstone, hepatic and common ducts and free movement of internal secrets through them;
  • enzymes - prescribed for a lack of digestive juices of the stomach and pancreas, as well as to prevent excessive secretion of acids by these organs (what and how to take - the doctor decides);
  • drugs for the treatment of concomitant diseases that can complicate the course of pancreatitis (cholecystitis, diabetes mellitus, dysbacteriosis);
  • antibiotics - in rare cases prescribed for treatment at home, more often taken in a hospital, but if prescribed, should be taken in strict accordance with the prescription.

Means of traditional and alternative medicine

The more time passes from the moment of the attack, the calmer things are in the digestive tract. Gradually, the dose of chemical treatments is reduced, only maintenance drugs in minimal doses remain.

During this period, at home, it is quite possible to use infusions and decoctions on medicinal herbs. The rules for the use of folk medicines are simple. They have to:

  • do not cause deterioration;
  • soften the digestive processes;
  • do not provoke allergies;
  • maintain the effect of exposure to drugs taken earlier or at the same time.

Medicinal herbs are introduced into everyday use gradually, after the approval of the attending physician. You can make decoctions and infusions as a separate drink, or you can add a small amount (start with 1 - 2 tablespoons) to allowed drinks. If the reaction is positive or neutral, the reception can be continued.

Physical activity in pancreatitis

A sedentary lifestyle is not indicated for pancreatitis in remission. Dosed activity improves the movement of liquid media in the secretory organs, prevents stagnation of the filling of the ducts, and maintains the rhythmic functioning of the digestive system.

In order to avoid accidental injuries and overloads, sports related to acceleration (athletics), contact team games (football, volleyball, etc.), jumping are not recommended. The following classes are suitable for pancreatitis:

  • swimming - almost all the muscles of the body are included without overloads;
  • walking - with a gradual increase in distance and speed - year-round and daily;
  • cross-country skiing (exclude ski jumping);
  • physiotherapy exercises - a complex for activating digestion, if necessary, is recommended in a hospital.

Loads should not cause fatigue and stress.

The situation and environment around the patient

An important factor contributing to recovery is the creation of a calm environment in the family, at work and the maintenance of friendly relations with loved ones and colleagues. If for some reason relations in the team do not add up, the job should be changed - long-term traumatic situations cause spasm of blood vessels and ducts, stagnation of secrets. This very soon provokes an exacerbation of pancreatitis, and all previous work on the arrangement of an acceptable lifestyle will be in vain.
