Which of the drugs is better to choose: Creon or Pancreatin?

30.01.2022 Preparations

One of the most popular drugs of the modern generation are "Creon" and "Pancreatin".

In pharmacies, both types of medicine are often found. It is noteworthy that when both drugs are related to the same group of drugs, their cost varies significantly.
What's the question? Let's try to understand and explain the situation to many patients with diseases of the digestive tract. Determine which of the drugs is better and more effective, and whether they can be interchanged.

"Pancreatin"

This drug is a drug of the enzymatic group. Pancreatin improves digestion due to the extract from the pancreas of large livestock (cow, pig), which is part of the drug. It is this extract that compensates for the deficiency of digestive enzymes in the patient's body. The drug is available in the form of white tablets.

The action of the drug "Pancreatin" is aimed at the thorough digestion of proteins, the breakdown of various kinds of fats and starch in case of disturbances in the patient's digestive system.

"Pancreatin" contains the following enzymes:

  • Trypsin;
  • Lipase;
  • Alpha amylase;
  • Chymotrypsin.

The above substances, formed into a regular tablet, when they enter the patient's stomach, begin to break down under the influence of digestive juice, without having fully fulfilled their therapeutic function. Since it would be better if the main action of the drug was carried out already in the intestines of the patient.

"Pancreatin" is both an independent medicinal enzyme preparation from the class of simple ones, and is part of more expensive drugs. One of these is Creon.

"Creon"

This drug is a small capsule, inside which is a dosed composition of digestive enzymes. Permissible dosages of pancreatin in each capsule of the drug "Creon" can be 10,000, 25,000 and 40,000 mg. These same enzymes, just like the medicine Pancreatin, are an extract from the pancreas of cattle.

You can take Creon, unlike Pancreatitis, with meals. The action of the drug due to the capsule shell will begin already in the intestine itself. In this case, the shell of the drug "Creon" protects the enzymatic composition of the drug from the negative effects of gastric juice, which is much better for the patient.

The composition of the drug "Creon" is the same as the composition of "Pancreatin":

  • Pancreatin;
  • Lipase
  • Alpha amylase;
  • Trypsin;
  • Chymotrypsin.

As well as "Pancreatin", "Creon" helps to break down the fats and starch entering the patient's body, as well as to digest protein.

So, what is the difference between both drugs "Pancreatin" and "Creon"?

The approximately similar composition of both drugs suggests that, in principle, it is possible to replace one prescribed drug with another. However, when making a decision, it is best to familiarize yourself with the main similarities and differences between the means.

Similarities:

  • Preparations of one group that improve digestion;
  • Almost the same components that make up the preparations;
  • The main active ingredient in both drugs is pancreatin.

Differences between drugs

With their fundamental similarities, both drugs have significant differences, knowledge of which will help you make the right decision when buying a medicine.

Drug differences:

  • The release form of the drug is "Creon" in capsules (which is preferable), "Pancreatin" in tablets;
  • The amount of the main substance in "Creon" is strictly dosed, in "Pancreatin" it is arbitrary and can always be different (moreover, the composition of the active substances in the preparation "Pancreatin" is not taken into account and is not indicated anywhere;
  • The action of the drug "Pancreatin" begins in the stomach, which does not allow the drug to fully perform its function. The action of "Creon" occurs already in the small intestine, which is what the patient needs to improve the digestive function;
  • Accordingly, "Creon" is given a higher therapeutic effect than "Pancreatin";
  • The cost of both drugs is significantly different: "Creon" in domestic pharmacies will cost several times more than "Pancreatin" (which can significantly hit the family budget).

Thus, having found out what the similarities and differences between the drugs actually are, each of the patients is able to decide for himself: is it possible to replace the expensive drug "Creon" with "Pancreatin" of the same action.

However, it is always worth remembering that your doctor prescribes exactly the dosage of the drug that the condition of your body requires. Therefore, before making a decision, be sure to consult a doctor about its appropriateness. It is likely that the doctor will allow you to use an interchangeable drug in the treatment.

Otherwise, always take care of your health and be happy! Lead an active lifestyle, build a proper and balanced nutrition system and you won't have to understand medicines!
