And yet we will try to figure out whether aliens really visit us regularly, appearing from time to time in various areas.
You can name the absolutely exact date when people first saw a UFO. On June 24, 1947, American pilot Kenneth Arnold flew over the mountain range of California. And suddenly, nine unusual flat disks appeared before the eyes of the astonished pilot, which the pilot mistook for alien aircraft. His books have become bestsellers and have sold millions of copies in many countries around the world.

Such an abundance of information about UFOs could no longer be ignored. The problem of extraterrestrial civilizations was taken up by scientists from many countries, and Russia was no exception. In 1988, a seminar was held in Tomsk, at which the researchers noticed that more than 100 thousand observations of anomalous phenomena had recently accumulated in many countries of the world.
Sociologists conducted surveys of the population, which revealed amazing facts. As it turned out, more than 20% of people are firmly convinced that they have witnessed the appearance of aliens on Earth. Many eyewitnesses enjoyed authority in scientific circles, and therefore it was completely impossible to ignore their evidence.
However, the calls of eyewitnesses, now and then heard in the observatories, cannot make astronomers believe all these stories, which is explained by very convincing reasons. From the point of view of astronomy, the appearance of space aliens on Earth is almost impossible. The Earth is at a great distance from the nearest stars, and therefore from worlds in which the origin of life is theoretically possible. To cover such huge distances, very large energy costs are required.
Earth civilization is not yet able to provide rocket projects that could reach the speed of light and fly to the nearest stars. But even if we imagine that alien civilizations have far surpassed the earthly one, the arrival of aliens to Earth is thought to be impossible. To cross the distance from one star to another, the speed of the ship must be close to the speed of light, but to achieve such a speed, too much fuel is needed. Scientists, in order to visually show how much fuel such a ship needs, say that such an amount of energy would not be found in the entire Galaxy.
And even at such a high speed, the flight would have lasted too long. The crews of interstellar ships had to consist of several generations of astronauts, since only the children or grandchildren of those who started from the planet could reach other worlds. And even if an alien ship flies towards the Earth, it is unlikely to reach it. The solar system seems to be practically lifeless, and only from a very close distance can one be convinced that there is life on Earth.
Thus, it turns out that the alien civilization must be extremely advanced if it managed to overcome interstellar space and flew to the Earth.
The appearance of aliens on our planet is also called into question because the aliens must accurately calculate when to go to Earth. Although our planet has existed for more than 4.6 billion years, intelligent beings appeared on it quite recently, most of this time our planet remained deserted, or its only inhabitants were microorganisms.
Modern people live on the planet for only some hundred thousand years. In order to show how small the age of a modern person is in relation to the age of the Earth, the following comparison can be made: if we conditionally say that our planet exists for a year, then a person was born on December 31, a couple of seconds before midnight.
Astronomers speak out against the existence of UFOs also because they have never seen a flying saucer or other anomalous phenomenon, although they spend every night at telescopes, peering into the night sky. Almost the entire earth's atmosphere is currently under the vigilant control of observational systems that record the flights of bright meteorites, the so-called. fireballs. Wide-angle astronomical cameras are constantly filming the sky for survey and archival purposes.
The study of the Earth is also carried out from satellites, which are equipped with highly sensitive equipment with a resolution in many parts of the electromagnetic spectrum, as well as in the infrared and microwave ranges. If even one of all these devices really recorded something unusual, it would become a real sensation. But this has not happened until today.
How then to be with the testimonies of eyewitnesses? With detailed drawings showing aircraft and aliens? With photographs, which, by the way, are very blurry and not replete with details? Scientists have come to the conclusion that UFOs do not exist at all, and all sorts of amazing phenomena that people have observed in many countries are nothing more than an optical illusion.
Special radio telescopes can pick up even the faintest cosmic signals, but so far there have been no reports from intelligent beings.
UFOs are often mistaken for bright stars or meteorites, planes flying in the sky, meteorological balloons, hot rocket steps that enter the upper atmosphere. Sometimes the explanation for such anomalous phenomena is quite simple: bizarre clouds, which are illuminated from below by the rays of the rising or setting sun, are perceived by eyewitnesses as UFOs. Often, a flying saucer is mistaken for laser beams from searchlights aimed at the night sky.
Unfortunately, it must be admitted that very authoritative eyewitnesses, the veracity of whose testimonies cannot be called into question, were also mistaken. In particular, President Carter, who was sure he saw a UFO on a gloomy evening in 1969, saw Venus. Astronomers, on the basis of instructions from the president himself, calculated that Venus should have appeared as a bright spot at this time and in this place. If Carter really saw a UFO, he would talk about two shining spheres (Venus and a UFO), and not about one.
UFOs were often observed by pilots, who, it would seem, should be reliable witnesses, since they are known for their pragmatism. For example, in 1983, in many places in Central Europe, pilots and random people observed UFO phenomena, many such phenomena were even described in the press. Undoubtedly, it was about the same anomalous phenomena, but their descriptions differed significantly from each other.
Witnesses disagreed about the time and speed of flight, the height of an unidentified object above the ground. As it turned out later, all these people really observed something unusual, but not an alien ship at all, but the remains of the carrier rocket of the Horizon-8 artificial satellite, which was launched just at that time.
Such observations of the same object revealed a curious fact - almost everyone was mistaken about the parameters of the object: the pilots reduced its speed by 30 times, the witnesses determined the flight altitude of the object with a thousandfold error, and inaccuracies in determining the time reached one hour. Why did this happen, because the witnesses did not want to mislead anyone at all?
The fact is that our sense organs are not perfect at all and are exposed to a variety of physiologically based distortions. For example, the Moon and the Sun at the horizon seem to us larger than at the zenith. Therefore, one should not always trust one's sight or hearing, as this may be an optical illusion or an auditory mirage.
It is also necessary to emphasize the fact that many stories of the so-called. eyewitnesses are outright lies, which were invented out of a desire to gain fame. The testimonies of Mr. Adamski, who published several books about his communication with aliens, were also fiction. It turned out that this man had worked all his life in a bookstore and had never been to the famous Mount Palomar Observatory. Numerous followers of Adamski are still flooding the book market with masterfully crafted UFO tales. Numerous photographs are either outright fakes, or they capture atmospheric phenomena on film, which have already been discussed above.
And to the question whether there are intelligent beings somewhere else in the Universe, scientists cannot give either a positive or a negative answer. So far, researchers can only put forward their own assumptions, because they do not have any objective facts.
But some researchers are of the opinion that contacts of people with aliens really existed, but only in very distant times. At present, even the theory of paleocontacts has been created, according to which astronauts flew to Earth and communicated with our ancestors. An ardent supporter of such a theory is the Swiss Erich von Däniken. In 1968, he even published a book on this topic, which was published under the title “Memories of the Future. Unsolved mysteries of the past. The book found a warm response in the hearts of readers, in which the author talked about a number of unusual archaeological finds, which were given a simple explanation - contact with extraterrestrial intelligence.
Deniken said that people at the time of such contacts were so underdeveloped that they could not reliably present information about aliens, and only mentioned them in their myths and legends. Many of the arguments that Deniken presented in his book, he borrowed from other authors, although he outlined some of his conjectures without anyone's help. In particular, the Swiss claims that aliens not only often visited the earth, but also actively interfered in human affairs. The author says that the aliens even changed the DNA of a person in order to increase his intelligence.

For example, rock carvings of astronauts in helmets are nothing but images of priests in ritual masks. The masks taken by Deniken for helmets are not decorated with antennas at all, but with horns. It has been proven that ancient people wore such masks when they performed any ritual actions: they conjured spirits for good luck, went hunting or war, prayed to the gods for a good harvest and favorable weather.

Giant stone buildings, despite the seeming impossibility of their erection, were built using simple improvised means. For example, the famous pyramids were built from huge stone blocks, which were pulled from the quarry to the construction site by several slaves. The wet sand of the Nile made the task much easier: as it turned out, even 2-3 people were able to move a huge block of stone from their place, and special bridges that were erected around the pyramids from construction debris helped lift the blocks up. Deniken also greatly overestimated the age of giant buildings. Huge structures, allegedly erected in a very distant past, were actually erected not so long ago. For example, the Aztec cities appeared in the XIV century. And the stone idols on Easter Island are of very little age; they were built after Columbus discovered America.
Mysterious drawings in the Nazca desert appeared around the same time. Most likely, they served the Indians of local tribes as a kind of appeal to the gods. Scientists have noticed that some signs in the desert are oriented to the setting or rising of the moon, to the stars in the constellations Orion or Ursa Major, that is, the inhabitants of the valley recorded calendar celestial events in this way. Drawing such huge symbols turned out to be quite simple. If the upper rocky layer of soil is removed, then a lighter layer of sand will be exposed under it. Such huge images were made from a sketch, which was first drawn on a grid and then enlarged. Indeed, faint lines can be distinguished on the surface of the valley, which are precisely such markings on the grid.
The Nazca Desert could not have been an ancient spaceport, if only because the debris and loose sand that make up the soil of the valley do not represent a strong enough foundation that could withstand the weight of an alien ship. On this basis, in the 80s. 20th century a cult of aliens arose. "Cultists", who are still active in many countries of the world, are not so much studying the problem of UFOs as collecting very dubious messages from "heavenly brothers". Religious ideas are very clearly traced in their "documents". These people claim that they have been receiving a lot of important information from beings from outer space for a long time, maintain regular contact with them, moreover, they act as assistants to these beings on Earth. However, upon careful consideration of their information, it becomes clear that all these messages do not go beyond the information and teachings presented in the occult literature.
At the end of the XX century. Jacques Vallee, one of the world famous UFO researchers, analyzed in detail all the cases of the appearance of alien objects noted in written sources throughout the history of mankind, and showed that they have always been part of his historical experience. The results of the work of Jacques Vallee were reflected in his books "Measurements" and "Confrontation". And although most eyewitnesses reported humanoid creatures, Valle suggests that extraterrestrial visitors may not bear a close resemblance to humans. As an alternative to their extraterrestrial origin, Valle puts forward a version according to which UFOs can be devices that move between dimensions or in time. However, this is far from a new idea. It was first expressed by American science fiction writers in 1947.
Recently, many scientists agree that interstellar flights can be relatively simple and feasible if four-dimensional space is used for this. Thus, W. Corliss in his book “Rocket Engines for Space Flights” argues that the possibility of the existence of other dimensions cannot be completely denied until humanity has the ability to perceive the fourth or fifth cosmic dimension.
