In this article, we have listed the ten commandments of Christianity. We have also prepared for you an interpretation of the laws of God.

Ten Commandments of Christianity

Here are the Commandments that the Lord God of Hosts gave to the people through His chosen one and the prophet Moses on Mount Sinai (Exodus 20:2-17):

  1. Dont kill.
  2. Don't commit adultery.
  3. Don't steal.

Truly, this law is short, but these commandments say a lot to anyone who knows how to think and who seeks the salvation of his soul.

Anyone who does not understand with his heart this main God's law will not be able to accept either Christ or His teachings. Whoever does not learn to swim in shallow water will not be able to swim in depth, for he will drown. And whoever does not learn to walk first will not be able to run, for he will fall and be broken. And whoever does not first learn to count to ten will never be able to count thousands. And whoever does not first learn to read in syllables will never be able to read fluently and speak eloquently. And whoever does not first lay the foundation of the house will try in vain to build a roof.

I repeat: whoever does not keep the commandments of the Lord given to Moses will knock in vain at the doors of the Kingdom of Christ.

FIRST COMMANDMENT

I am the Lord your God... Thou shalt have no other gods before Me.

This means:

God is One, and there are no other gods besides Him. From Him all creatures come, thanks to Him they live and return to Him. All strength and power resides in God, and there is no strength outside of God. And the power of light, and the power of water, and air, and stone is the power of God. If an ant crawls, a fish swims and a bird flies, then this is thanks to God. The ability of a seed to grow, grass to breathe, a person to live, are the essence of God's abilities. All these abilities are the property of God, and every creature receives its ability to exist from God. The Lord gives to everyone as He sees fit, and takes back when He sees fit. Therefore, when you want to gain the ability to do something, seek only in God, for the Lord God is the source of life-giving and mighty power. There are no other sources besides Him. Pray to the Lord like this:

“God, Merciful, inexhaustible, the only source of strength, strengthen me, the weak, give me greater strength so that I can better serve You. God, give me wisdom so that I do not use the power received from You for evil, but only for the benefit of myself and my neighbors, to magnify Your glory. Amen".

THE SECOND COMMANDMENT

Do not make for yourself an idol or any image of what is in heaven above, and what is on the earth below, and what is in the water below the earth.

It means:

Do not deify creation instead of the Creator. If you climbed a high mountain where you met the Lord God, why should you look back at the reflection in a puddle under the mountain? If a certain person longed to see the king and after much effort managed to stand before him, why would he then look around to the right and left at the king's servants? He can look around for two reasons: either because he does not dare to stand face to face before the king, or because he thinks that the king alone cannot help him.

THIRD COMMANDMENT

Do not pronounce the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not leave without punishment the one who pronounces His name in vain.

What, are there really such people who decide to commemorate, without reason and need, the name that leads to trepidation - the name of the Lord God Most High? When the name of God is pronounced in heaven, the heavens bow, the stars flash brighter, the Archangels and Angels sing: “Holy, Holy, Holy is the Lord of hosts,” and the saints and saints of God fall on their faces. Then who among mortals dares to commemorate the Most Holy Name of God without spiritual trembling and without deep sighing from longing for God?

THE FOURTH COMMANDMENT

Work six days, and do all your work; and the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord thy God.

This means:

The Creator created for six days, and on the seventh day He rested from His labors. Six days are temporary, vain and short-lived, and the seventh is eternal, peaceful and durable. By the creation of the world, the Lord God entered into time, but did not leave eternity. This mystery is great...(Eph. 5:32), and it is more fitting to think about it than to talk about it, for it is not available to everyone, but only to God's chosen ones.

FIFTH COMMANDMENT

Honor your father and your mother, that your days on earth may be long.

This means:

Before you knew the Lord God, your parents knew Him. This alone is enough for you to bow to them with respect and give them praise. Bow down and give praise to everyone who has known the Highest Good in this world before you.

THE SIXTH COMMANDMENT

Dont kill.

This means:

God breathed life from His life into every created being. Life is the most precious wealth given by God. Therefore, whoever encroaches on any life on earth raises his hand on the most precious gift of God, moreover, on the very life of God. All of us living today are only temporary bearers of God's life in ourselves, custodians of the most precious gift that belongs to God. Therefore, we do not have the right, and we cannot take away the life borrowed from God, either from ourselves or from others.

SEVENTH COMMANDMENT

Don't commit adultery.

And this means:

Do not have an illegal relationship with a woman. Indeed, in this, animals are more obedient to God than many people.

THE EIGHTH COMMANDMENT

Don't steal.

And this means:

Do not grieve your neighbor by disrespecting his property rights. Don't do what foxes and mice do if you think you're better than a fox and a mouse. The fox steals without knowing the law on theft; and the mouse gnaws at the barn, not realizing that it is harming someone. Both the fox and the mouse understand only their own need, but not someone else's loss. They are not given to understand, but you are given. Therefore, you are not forgiven what is forgiven for a fox and a mouse. Your benefit must always be subordinate to the law, it must not be to the detriment of your neighbor.

NINTH COMMANDMENT

Do not bear false witness against your neighbor.

BUT this means:

Do not be deceitful either towards yourself or towards others. If you lie about yourself, you yourself know that you are lying. But if you slander someone else, that other person knows that you are slandering about him.

THE TENTH COMMANDMENT

Do not covet your neighbor's house; do not covet your neighbor's wife; neither his servant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that is with your neighbor.

And this means:

As soon as you desired someone else's, you have already fallen into sin. Now the question is, will you come to your senses, will you catch yourself, or will you continue to roll down the inclined plane, where the desire of someone else leads you?

Desire is the seed of sin. A sinful act is already a harvest from the seed sown and grown.

Once the Lord gave Moses commandments on how to live in order to inherit the kingdom of heaven. They began to be used in Christianity with some changes, becoming the basis of the divine doctrine of salvation. are considered the basis of the life of a Christian, by which one must navigate the world. This is what the Lord called people who want to serve him to live in peace and in harmony with themselves, in harmony with the world around them.

Commandments of Moses

On Mount Sinai, the Lord gave the 10 commandments to the Jewish people. They formed the basis of both the Old and New Testaments. However, there were some changes in the original version. For example, the Jews still consider Sabbath a sacred day - in Israel, even shops do not work at this time until sunset. Christians consider the day of the resurrection of Christ sacred, but the essence of the commandments themselves is preserved. Here are 10 commandments in Russian, which become guidelines for a Christian even in the modern world.

1. There will be no gods for you other than me. This commandment is directed against polytheism and those who doubt the faith and correctness of the teachings of Christ. The church even has such a concept as spiritual fornication, the meaning of which means restlessness (fornication and the word "get lost" have the same root). Therefore, you just need to believe in Christ and not try to follow several religions, teachings, or try to simultaneously engage in black magic and go to the temple.

2. Do not make yourself an idol. Continuation of commandment 1. Do not rely too much on material values, talismans or specific people, as this is the path to disappointment and spiritual loss. Moreover, it is impossible to deify someone specific. For example, for an inexperienced girl, a young man may seem almost like a god, and then after falling in love, severe disappointment will come. And here again the 10 commandments of God in Russian become a beacon. In order not to be disappointed in life and not to lose faith, the initial feeling of love for God, one cannot deify objects or other people, no matter how attractive they may seem.

3. It is impossible to pronounce the name of the Lord in vain. This can bring trouble on yourself.

4. Remember the Sabbath. In Christianity, Sunday is considered a holy day, so you need to work for 6 days, and take a break at 7, if possible. In the modern world, it is not always possible to fulfill this commandment - after all, you can’t explain to your boss that you can’t work on Sunday. However, in most situations, Sunday is considered a public holiday. Therefore, it is best to spend it in prayer and spiritual meditation.

5. Honor your father and mother. This commandment requires clarification: do not offend, try to make them feel good, listen to their advice, if they are reasonable. Unfortunately, for centuries, veneration was understood as the slavish acceptance of someone else's opinion, which broke more than one fate. It is for this reason that today this commandment is reluctantly observed in the modern world. Moreover, parents have different ideas about what is good and bad, and it is not always worth following their advice. However, it is also impossible to offend parents.

6. You can not kill. Any killing is considered a very serious sin, both human and animal.

7. Do not commit adultery. Usually, this word is understood as cheating on a spouse and relationships outside of marriage, but the meaning of this word is wider. Adultery is translated as an act against love, a betrayal of love. Therefore, it is also understood as the failure to fulfill a promise, the betrayal of a friend's secrets, telling other people what was a secret. That is, adultery implies any act that violates love.

8. Don't steal.

9. Do not tell lies, do not slander anyone.

10. Don't be jealous.

It is these commandments that make up the Christian doctrine. Christ also gave a new commandment, which unites the previous ones: “love one another, love your enemies…”. It sums up everything that was described earlier. But there are also mortal sins that necessarily require repentance to the priest.

7 Sins

If a person commits them, be sure to say about it in confession and try not to repeat it again.

They are considered the spiritual guides of a Christian. But not only they contribute to the salvation of man. The teachings and books of the holy fathers also help to become a support and come to one's own repentance, even if it is sometimes difficult to resist not to commit some kind of sin or to do something contrary to the commandments of God.

According to the realities of modern life, the 10 commandments of God in Orthodoxy are considered as the basis of human community. By keeping Heavenly Father's covenant, people can coexist peacefully despite differences in cultures, skin tones, and levels of technology and science.

Each person has a kind of inner core (conscience), dividing actions into good and bad. But in order to act according to conscience, it is necessary to properly educate your children.

And modern parents, in pursuit of earnings, do not give their heirs worthy attention and education, shifting the burden on the school. As a result, the concept of "conscience" is gradually becoming obsolete.

The enumeration of the 10 commandments of God and the 7 deadly sins is given in addition, so that their fulfillment will bring people closer to the Kingdom of Heaven after the death of the physical body.

As Jesus Christ promised, believing people after earthly life will receive complete consolation:

  • those who weep from the hardships of life will rejoice in paradise;
  • those who seek the truth will find it in the underworld;
  • the humble, the meek await eternal life;
  • those who show mercy to others in life will be pardoned in the future;
  • those who suffer for their faith will find a place in the heavenly world;
  • those who sincerely believed God, fulfilled his precepts, will see the Lord.

But until the coming of the future Kingdom of God, the people who follow these instructions today live in joy and peace.

Do the precepts of the Most High, given to the race of Israel, apply to Orthodox believers? It must be understood that the definition of "the people of Israel" refers to all people who believe in God as the Creator of all living and inanimate surrounding world.

Note! Orthodox Christians associate themselves with the descendants of their forefathers: Abraham, Jacob, Isaac, therefore the commandments of God bequeathed to the Israelites apply to everyone.

The Lord created man in his own image and likeness. During the fall of Adam and Eve, many characteristics were lost forever, but the main difference from the animal world remained - the freedom to choose one's own path. But at the same time, it is necessary to be aware of the responsibility for the chosen path of life, so as not to harm yourself and others.

Landmarks, a kind of milestones that must be adhered to in order not to lose direction, are God's instructions, written on the pages of Holy Scripture.

Tablets of the Covenant

Approximately 1250 years before the birth of Jesus Christ on Mount Sinai, Moses received stone tablets (tablets) on which the words of the covenant for the people were inscribed. Judging by the durability of the chosen material, instructions on how to behave to believers are always valid.

On one page of the stone book are written the rules of behavior of people in relation to God, and on the second - advice on how to behave with others.

In the New Testament, Jesus Christ, without canceling the 10 commandments, gave the law a new, more perfect style, denoting that God is love.

The Lord loves and forgives his children, so a person must love the Creator and his neighbors, as God's creation.

Knowing the Law of God, people can correctly evaluate their actions, referring to the model for behavior. Those who do not observe the established law given by God through the prophet Moses are considered spiritually dead, because they do not see and do not understand the essence of sin. At the same time, ignorance of the commandments does not justify sinners.

God for the Orthodox

Four covenants govern the relationship of people with the Heavenly Father.

First

The first commandment is considered the most important, fundamental law of Christianity: everyone must believe only one God.

To understand the meaning of the law and accept it, it is necessary to study daily:

  • adults are encouraged to read the Bible, children - the Law of God in pictures;
  • attend church services on Sundays and public holidays;
  • confess and take communion;
  • participate in church life;
  • observe the prescribed posts;
  • think about the meaning of human life.

Common sins against the main covenant:

    • denial of the existence of the Creator (atheism, unbelief);
    • polytheism (paganism, idolatry);
    • doubt, lack of hope for God's help;
    • worship of idols (sects);
    • refusal of faith in the name of obtaining privileges, fear;
    • sins of abomination (superstition, divination, turning to psychics, reading relevant literature, practicing magic);
    • swearing (the origins are demons, turning to which a person calls them into his life);
    • Satanism (belief in the devil).

Second

This Divine law forbids worshiping idols and idols. At the same time, it should not be identified with the prohibition of icons in a church or at home. The images depict the faces of the holy helpers of the Creator, the image of the Lord himself, the Virgin Mary, Jesus. Seeing a divine image, a person turns to the Creator, and not to the material from which the icon is made.

Sins against the second commandment:

  • worship of eastern symbols of the year (Bull, Snake, Boar and the like);
  • stroking the belly of a frog, personifying an idol that brings wealth;
  • drug addiction, alcoholism, computer addiction, when a person betrays faith, family for pleasure;
  • pride, in which the desire to become a recognized leader relegates all spiritual needs to the background.

The third

The name of the Lord should be treated with respect, you should not call him without a reason, you should not joke and constantly swear. An oath given to God must be fulfilled.
Wrong actions:

  • in ordinary worldly conversations, oaths with the mention of the Divine Name;
  • funny, playful expressions addressed to the Heavenly Father (jokes, jokes);
  • blasphemy;
  • disrespectful treatment of sacred cult objects;
  • failure to fulfill oaths and promises made to God.

Fourth

God's fourth commandment is dedicated to spiritual rest after a week of work. The Lord created the whole world around us in 6 days, and dedicated the seventh to rest from righteous deeds. The same regime is recommended for believers. For 6 days a person must work to improve his well-being, and the last day of the week is dedicated to spiritual life.

At the same time, a person who shirks from work on a six-day weekday, or indulges in laziness and fun on Sunday, is equally sinful.

Previously, Saturday was considered a free day, but after the death of the cross and the resurrection of Christ, Sunday is considered a sacred day. Throughout the year, 12 twelfth holidays are celebrated, which are also intended for prayers.

Relationship between people

The relationship between people is regulated by the six remaining laws, from which it is impossible to choose more or less important. Frequently asked, how many commandments a person observes in life, one can hear of two forbidding murder and theft.

At the same time, it is sincerely believed that this is enough for a pious life. A person simply does not understand: by violating the law of peaceful coexistence, each one worsens not only his own life, but also cripples the life of the closest people (children, parents, spouses).

Fifth

The meaning of honor is:

  • love and respect;
  • care in old age;
  • a prayer for the forgiveness of sins, both during life and after the death of parents.

The following are considered sin:

  • offensive words towards parents;
  • disrespect for elders in age, rank, rank;
  • not responding to comments.

in the bible it is clearly indicated and proven by psychologists' research that children who have not been able to forgive their parents are unhappy in life (bad work, problems in personal relationships, poor health).

Sixth

Only the Almighty, who endows people with life, can manage the life and death of all living things. Therefore, murder, violent death, including suicide, are considered a sin, a crime against God's will.

A dead person cannot atone for his sin and repent. As a result of suicide, the soul of a person will burn in hellfire forever.

The following categories of people are considered covenant-breaking:

  • judges dooming a knowingly innocent person to death;
  • indifferent, watching how people die, although it is in their power to help and save lives;
  • entrepreneurs dooming workers to hard, exhausting labor without observing safety precautions;
  • helping to deprive a person of life, hiding a murderer from punishment;
  • a doctor helping hopeless patients to die;
  • women who have an abortion at any stage of pregnancy, and gynecologists who perform such operations.

In addition to physical death in Orthodoxy, it is considered a sin, akin to murder, the death of a person’s soul:

  • sale of drugs (the life of drug addicts is reduced);
  • distribution of pornographic literature (destroys the soul of a person through fornication);
  • extrasensory perception, witchcraft, quackery;
  • sectarianism, luring people into their networks, going against the legitimate faith.

It is not considered a sin to defend one's Motherland from an external enemy, when warriors kill the enemy, protect their people, even sacrificing their lives.

Seventh

It is believed that the marriage of a man and a woman is sanctified in heaven. When getting married in a church, young people make a vow to be faithful to each other under any life circumstances. Therefore, the destruction of the family and divorce is considered an oath-breaking.

At the same time, children remain innocent sufferers, whose fate is radically changing. Before marriage, young people must observe purity of mind and body.

It is considered a sin of fornication:

  • reading romance novels, watching films that excite lust;
  • exciting, erotic dances, music;
  • shameful jokes, songs, immoral jokes and phrases;
  • same-sex "love" relationship;
  • a manner of dressing that evokes lustful thoughts;
  • family life, not consecrated by marriage.

Eighth

With this commandment, God warns believers that it is a sin to openly or secretly take the property of one's neighbors.

The concept covers the following activities:

  • deliberate deceit, body kit of the buyer;
  • debt evasion;
  • theft, robbery, fraud;
  • bribery, when an official extorts an additional amount for the performance of his duties.

Ninth

Instruction forbids false witness, censure and condemnation of people around, since the prerogative to judge or show mercy belongs to the Heavenly Father.

Breaking God's Command:

  • gossip, false testimony in court, slander of someone;
  • slander - the deliberate distortion of information about a person in order to tarnish his reputation;
  • hanging labels on others (drunkard, thief, libertine, etc.), thereby programming the neighbor to act in accordance with public opinion.

Tenth

The law warns that we must be content with what we have, not to desire the property of the people around us. Do not envy, neither mentally, nor by word, nor by sight. It's hard enough to genuinely rejoice in the success of others. Encourage the enterprise of a neighbor without envying the success of an outsider. The main task of a believer is to purify his thoughts, his soul from the harmful influence of the unclean.

The 10 commandments of God in Russian are set out in detail in the expanded edition of the Bible with interpretation.

How to raise a child

Orthodox Christians must take care of the proper upbringing of their children. For young readers, a Bible for children has been specially published, in which the 10 commandments are presented in the form of colorful pictures. Together with parents, learning is fast and interesting.

The ten commandments of God in Orthodoxy play an extremely important role - they are the basis of the entire Christian faith and represent the essence of the Christian law. They were received on Mount Sinai by the prophet Moses after, by the will of the Lord, he led all the people of Israel out of Egypt, where he was in slavery.

Basics of Orthodoxy: why you should follow the commandments

10 biblical commandments or the Decalogue God handed over to the Jewish people, during their journey from slavery to the land given by the Lord - Canaan.

Initially, the Lord Himself inscribed them on two tablets, but later they were rewritten by the hand of Moses.

The law can be roughly divided into two parts:

  • the first 4 commandments are about a person's relationship to the Lord;
  • the last 5 are about the relationship between a person and neighbors.

The law of God is difficult for people with a sinful nature to obey. However, this is something to which it is boundless to strive. What is it for?

In the same way as the force of attraction, gravity, etc., exist and operate spiritual laws. Violation of them leads to the threat of carnal and spiritual death.

People do not resent the existence of gravity, and they know that if you jump from a height, you can crash. The same is true with prolonged immersion in water or falling into fire. Why is keeping the law of the Lord so revolting?

Atheists live as if the spiritual world does not exist, but this does not exempt them from the operation of spiritual rules. If a person does not believe in the power of attraction, this does not mean that it does not exist and its violation will lead to death. The same applies to the Decalogue - violation will lead first to spiritual death, and then to carnal.

Many people view the Decalogue as a set of rules for entering heaven after death. But this is erroneous, because the goal is to prove to a person that he cannot cope on his own and needs God's help and Jesus Christ. No one can do it perfectly on their own, but only with God's help. We all need the death of Jesus Christ and God's forgiveness with redemption. One should ask the Lord for help in keeping the law and pray in repentance if it has been violated.

Important! Anyone who considers himself a true Christian needs to know the 10 biblical commandments, because by them he can check his life path and compare it with the one that the Lord has prepared.

Moses with the commandments given to him

Commandments of God and their interpretation

The Creator wrote 10 rules on 2 stone tablets and handed them over to Moses. He remained on the mountain for another 40 days, and then went down to the people, but what he saw there was terrible - the Jews cast themselves a calf of gold and made it their god. Moses in anger threw the tablets to the ground and broke them.

After the people were punished, Moses went up the mountain again and wrote them down again. You should consider them all in detail, for a better understanding.

First

“I am the Lord your God. Thou shalt have no other gods before Me."

What does it say? Our Lord is the true and living God, who is alone in the entire universe and beyond. It is He who is the Creator of the whole world and all creations that live and exist by Him alone. The Christian religion is a religion of monotheism. It has no place for a host of gods, as was the case in Greek, Roman and Persian culture.

God is only one. All power is concentrated in the Creator, and there is simply no power outside of Him. He is the beginning of time and its end, He is the beginning of time and the end. The movement of the sun across the sky, the movement of a drop across a leaf, the movement of an ant and the running of a leopard - in all this there is God's hand and all this is possible only thanks to Him.

Despite the many names, the Lord is one. In Scripture, He calls himself Yahweh (I am who I am), Jehovah (I will become), God Almighty, Elohim (God), Adonai (Lord), Sabaoth (Lord of armies). But these are just characteristics, character traits. He is the source of strength, both spiritual and material, so only one should come to Him.

According to this sin:

  • polytheism;
  • magic;

Second

“You shall not make for yourself an idol or any image of what is in the sky above, and what is on the earth below, and what is in the water below the earth.”

For murder, a person will suffer a terrible punishment. Moreover, it should be borne in mind that you can kill with simple words. You should watch not only your hands, but also your tongue.

seventh

"Do not commit adultery."

The Heavenly Father created the family at the beginning of existence. His idea is a man and a woman belonging to each other. There is no room for a third.

Despite heretical traditions about Adam's second wife Lilith, God created only Adam and Eve. Therefore, a husband and wife should take care of each other, love and not look / think about others.

Family is not always easy, but a person must follow the law.

Read about the family in Orthodoxy:

eighth

"Don't steal."

The most important law in the field of human relations is that one should not take something that belongs to another. This applies to both small things and some big things.

The Heavenly Father gives to everyone according to his will, so if a person steals, he shows disrespect not only to the work of his neighbor, but also to God. If he thinks that someone has something more and this is unfair, then this also expresses disrespect and disobedience to God's will.

ninth

"Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor."

A lie spoils everything and sooner or later opens up. One should not be deceitful towards others or oneself. Deception does not bring anything good, and the motives for it are almost always sinful.

The Almighty always knows the truth, and sooner or later it will be revealed to people. This law helps to preserve the spiritual health of a person.

Tenth

"Do not covet your neighbor's house or anything that your neighbor has."

This rule has something in common with the 8th, but it is more detailed. In the original, God speaks of a wife, cattle, property.

Even one desire to have something someone else's is considered a sin. Desire is the seed of sin, and. if not uprooted in time, it will grow into a huge tree.

Commandments of Christ

It should be understood that the listed 10 laws and 9 gospel commandments are different from each other, although it is necessary to fulfill them all.

The first were received by Moses from the Lord as the basis of the law for the Jews, who became God's people. It was they who were created to separate the Jews from all other peoples who lived according to their own laws. Thanks to them, the Jews became an isolated, God's people at the dawn of the formation of religion. They were called upon not only to create a society and a state, but also to protect people from sin.

The commandments of Christ, given by him in the Sermon on the Mount in chapters 5-7 of the Gospel of Matthew, are somewhat different.

Sermon on the Mount

They talk about the spiritual world, and almost do not touch the carnal. Christ in them defines what the Christian soul should be like, how a believing person should develop in God.

Important! The commandments of Christ in no way deny the basic law (Decalogue), but, on the contrary, continue it. If the Lord forms society and relations between people by law, then Christ speaks of the inner world of a person and its formation.

Watch a video about the commandments of Jesus

Law of God is a guiding star for every Christian. This is the only way to enter the Kingdom of Heaven. The modern world is very difficult for any person. Therefore, everyone should see the need for the 10 commandments of God and the 7 deadly sins. This applies not only to adults, but also to children. Therefore, many people turn to such authoritative guidance. The 10 commandments of God in Russian appeared relatively long ago.

Interpretation of the 10 Biblical Commandments

God created rules and laws. People should have an understanding of evil and good, of their own intentions and actions. Children cannot understand the commandments in an adult way, which means that they need to be explained in a simple way. Therefore, the commandments of God are presented here with understandable interpretations for children.

God is one

The Bible says, "I am the Lord thy God, and there are no other gods but Me." There is only one Creator, and there is no one else besides Him, and therefore one must believe with all one's soul and heart. This is tantamount to believing your parents - mom and dad. The creator who created the world does not forget about people and takes care of everyone. God must always be remembered and honored, and it is necessary to address him only through prayers.

God said so that people do not create any image for themselves, do not serve and worship him. If any idol appears, many forget about the commandments and about God himself. A bad child is one who is able to exchange his father and mother for a computer or dolls.

An example is Kai, who became addicted to evil, therefore, he lost love and goodness, because he chose the snow queen as an idol. The fairy-tale character had different toys, but he did not have happiness. Only after the arrival of Gerda in the ice castle, Kai's heart was filled with goodness and love, after which he came to life again. For Christians, God becomes above everything, and the next lower step is occupied by close people. Idols can be not only things, but also people, for example, celebrities. Therefore, you should not get carried away by popular people who will not do anything good for the soul.

Don't take the Lord's name in vain

The Lord's name should be treated with reverence and not pronounced unnecessarily. It is necessary to speak the name of God only with great reverence and attention. Every appeal to the Lord is done through prayer. One priest once said that it is like a telephone conversation: at one end of the tube they are talking, and at the other they are listening. Therefore, a Christian person should not cry out to God without reason. The Lord's name is kept in the heart with all frugality and in vain it is not worth letting it out from there. If during a conversation it was accidentally pronounced: “Lord”, then immediately in addition it is pronounced: “Glory to you” or “Have mercy on me”.

Six day work week

6 days you can do all things and work, but on the 7th day you can’t do this - this is God's day and is dedicated only to him. The seventh day is Sunday. On ordinary days, one must fulfill all the commandments and pray, but on Sunday, household chores stop and attention is devoted to the Heavenly Father. To fulfill the fourth commandment, you should go to church and take communion, as well as participate in worship.

Honor your parents

Christ said that the one who honors his parents will be blessed on earth. Children are obliged to help their parents, to obey them. When children are small, parents raise them and help them until they become adults. Adult children should not forget about the elderly mother and father.

Reverence is not limited to politeness, it is necessary to provide specific assistance. Parents will be already at the end of their lives, so adult children should provide all possible assistance, both materially and spiritually. Support means a lot, so you should obey your elders, respect mentors and teachers. To be worthy, you need to treat people well.

Don't kill

The deprivation of human life by another person is truly the most terrible event. God gave life is a priceless gift. No one has the right to take away such a gift from a person. If we take various wars as an example, then killing aggressors is also considered a sin, but to a small extent. This sin is justified, but refusing to come to the defense is truly a betrayal, and such a decision is ranked among the terrible sins. You always need to protect loved ones from invaders.

Adults and teenagers must understand that it is possible to commit murder without a weapon in hand. It is enough to take a sneaky step with the help of a word or deed. Although the one who plotted the terrible intention did not participate in direct contact, but he is the killer who started such an intention. It is unacceptable to mock the smaller brothers: domestic animals, birds, beasts and insects - all those who have life. God created man to take care of them.

Don't commit adultery

Love cannot be crossed. It is also forbidden to betray. This law of fidelity is about those who are loved by a person and love him. To preserve the family, it is important to keep the commandment of faithfulness. It is forbidden for a husband to look at other women - this is adultery. Even thoughts about others grow into lust, which in turn is a sin.

Faithful to each other, the husband and wife will remain together forever and live a long and happy life. Any factor of betrayal is treason. It is hard to live with such a feeling of guilt, besides, a person will bring a terrible sin onto his soul.

Do not steal

The next bad thing is stealing, which means to take someone else's things without return. Most people are inclined to believe that if any item was found on the street, then the act is not considered theft.

For example, a person was walking down the road from work and found an expensive phone. There are two options: take it with you, no matter how much it costs, or find the owner of the device. In the second case, the deed will become noble. You can't steal or take someone else's. In this way, God tests the faithfulness of a person, so you should not be tempted and take sin on your soul.

Don't bear false witness

Sometimes people deliberately use lies to hide the truth and overcome some unpleasant situations in life. They think it will help them. It is important to understand: no matter what the deception is, it will always be revealed, even later, but this cannot be avoided. It is a sin if one person invents evil against another. Many engage in slander to defame innocent people.

Don't want anything from someone else

Envy knows no bounds, it destroys joy. Therefore, you cannot be jealous. Usually this happens due to the fact that someone lives better than the other. There is a saying: "The miser pays twice." There are moments in life where a greedy and envious person cunningly buys some product, but after a while, albeit a long time, that person will also be outwitted. You can’t do this, you need to rejoice at positive situations when something good happens to friends or relatives. For such an event, one must thank God, and not grind one's teeth and envy. In Christianity, they do not envy "white envy", they can only rejoice. Such a virtue is much better than envy and greed.

Seven deadly sins

In this regard, there is a widespread opinion that "seven terrible sins" is an equal number of committed actions. This is not true. The list of small sinful acts can be very long, for example:

It's just that the number 7 consists of main groups and has many subgroups of bad deeds. Saint Gregory the Great was the first to propose the idea of such a classification. It happened in 590. But in the church there was a slightly different classification, and there were eight sins.

Deadly sins in Orthodoxy, a list of the main addictions:

  1. pride. A slight contempt for a person breeds pride. If a proud person feels contempt for others because they are low in origin, poor and ignorant, then he independently attributes himself to the wisest people. After all, he is rich, strong, noble and prudent. He resists, mocks the preferences of others. But he can be healed if he turns to God. After all, it was said that the Lord gives grace to the humble, but opposes the proud;
  2. envy. The well-being of a neighbor always upsets an envious person. Therefore, the human soul becomes evil. The vice of an envious person manifests itself in this way: to see a happy man unhappy, a rich man poor, a healthy man poor. The happiness of the envious appears when the happy life of another person is overtaken by disaster. Such a vice that has penetrated the heart forms a launching pad for all other sins, not counting the many upcoming small and big dirty tricks. As a result, a terrible sin can happen - murder, due to the fact that someone lives better and has his own good business. Perhaps the envious person is not capable of committing a crime, but this will always make him feel bad. Vice will begin to intensify and devour the soul. A person will needlessly reduce himself to the grave, but the afterlife will not save him either. There he will continue to suffer;
  3. gluttony. There are three kinds of gluttony: eating at different times is the first kind; the second is oversaturation, and the third is the use of exclusively tasty dishes. A true Christian must be careful: meals are taken at a strictly defined time, one must not oversaturate, one must thank God, even for the most meager food. In gluttony, the stomach is in its own slavery. This is not only excessive gluttony at the dinner table, but also insane culinary choosiness with a preference for gourmet dishes. If you look at it from a cultural point of view, then there is a huge gulf between a gourmet and rampant gluttony. Nevertheless, they are doomed to food slavery. For such a category, food is not the usual source of energy, but becomes the main goal in life;
  4. fornication. A person is not omnipotent and succumbs to various temptations, but one cannot stop fighting and repenting of sins. Only in this way is the path to holiness paved. At every step in the modern metropolis there is a mass of various images. These perversions are shown on TV, and the Internet is full of all sorts of bad things. Often a young person covers his good desires with poisonous images and is unable to think about anything else. He begins to take possession of the demon of passion. Passing next to women, a young man perceives them as females. The intoxicated brain is filled with lustful thoughts, and the heart yearns for the satisfaction of dirty thoughts. Such debauchery is not inherent even in animals, but a person is able to sink even to such a level. Fornication is considered not only extramarital sex life and betrayal, but also such thoughts;
  5. anger. In a fit of anger, a person entails great danger. He swears at himself, yells at others, comes into a feverish state of anger. Such a person is like a demon. But for the human soul, anger is considered a natural property. The Lord God specially put such a quality into a person, but in order to resist and be angry at sin, and not at people. Over time, righteous anger perverted and began to be directed at his neighbor. Little things cause fights, swearing, screaming and murder. This is a harmful sin;
  6. greed. Many say that only the wealthy who seek to increase their wealth can be greedy. But such a sin applies to everyone: both the rich and the poor. Passion consists in painful attempts to possess things and increase material wealth;
  7. laziness. It is expressed by extreme pessimism and general bodily and spiritual relaxation. A strong-willed person purposefully goes to the goal with jealousy in his heart, which moves him forward. And despondency manifests itself in an unattainable goal. A person sets himself a too difficult task, therefore, jealousy does not move the will, which in turn results in laziness. A person is upset that he cannot achieve what he wants, and gives up, discouraged for days on end. This happens when a person departs from the Creator and directs all his thoughts to earthly affairs, and not to heavenly ones.
